We're currently looking for:

General Manager Casual Game Operators 

Grim Up North LTD & Escape Rooms Durham are looking for a new General Manager to take over day to day operations of all Escape Rooms Durham activities. The applicant will have an enthusiastic interest in Escape rooms, gaming, live events, theatre, customer service and hospitality and people. You will be managing a diverse and enthusiastic team, and it will be your responsibility to bring that team together. 

Previous experience in management or assistant management is preferred. The position is full time.

Job Title:

General Manager - Reporting to company Directors

Terms of Employment:

This is a full time contract paid at, at least, £12,.50 p/h with 40 hours worked per week either across 5 or 6 days.

Overtime will be paid at, at least, £12.50 per hour for each hour worked over 40. 

A large percentage of the working hours will take place at evenings and weekends. 

 

Statutory annual paid holiday.

Statutory Sick Pay

NEST Pension offered. 

Duties will include:

Stage managing 'Escape Games' at Escape Rooms Durham

Greeting players, answering any questions they have, and giving the pre / post game briefing in a fun and entertaining way.

Health and safety supervision

Taking bookings and handling payments both in person and over the phone

Cleaning duties including hoovering, polishing, dusting, cleaning customer toilets, maintaining cleanliness of all areas, emptying bins etc.

Maintenance of props and set pieces and up keep of game equipment.

 

Management Duties Tasks:

Overseeing all elements of Escape Room management.

HR – Managing staff and giving direction.

Overseeing staff and customer welfare and health and safety

Reporting any ongoing problems to company directors.

Overseeing the quality of gaming equipment and managing and conducting maintenance, including painting and using power tools. 

Building the monthly rota

Completing weekly pay roll

Completing numerous admin reports quickly and efficiently.

Working with company directors to form sales strategy's

Carrying out direct sales to clients for Escape Rooms Durham products, and also the wider Grim Up North LTD product portfolio including radio advertising - Training given. 

Making key decisions with short notice to solve problems and ensure smooth running of the company.

Conducting job interviews for new staff alongside company directors.

Take part in weekly company  meetings with company directors.

Be willing to be flexible with hours of work, especially during busy periods.

Managing the build process of new games and attractions.

Conducting off site events for Escape Rooms Durham

A willingness to be on call at short notice to deal with emergency's that may occur on site (Being the first port of call for problems)

Being the main key holder, meeting contractors, landlords etc. 

Generating leads and selling our corporate offerings - Commission based sales. 

Essential Skills:

An outgoing, fun and confident manner.

Confident with public speaking and "briefing" players.

Impeccable customer service skills

The ability to work calmly and professional under pressure whilst making key decisions. 

The ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.

An ability to foresee problems before they occur.

A ability to build and stick to budgets and directed by directors. 

Ability to manage a team, including staff members, some of whom will have little work experience.

Working as part of a team

Polite and well humoured.

ICT Skills.

An understanding of running live public events such as concerts / theatre / Family leisure.

An understanding of 'Escape Games' as a concept.

An ability to leave personal business at the door to give every single customer an entertaining and fun experience.

A drive to want to create a fantastic experience for our customers.

A willingness to go beyond the call of duty to ensure the customer has an unforgettable experience.

Basic DIY and electrical skills - No formal qualification required. 

Must be able to work weekends and evenings up to midnight. Work during academic and public holiday periods including Christmas (not Christmas day). 

Qualifications:

Applicants should have qualifications equivalent to 3 A levels / BTEC further education or higher, or experience of running live events with references

Extra skills that would be appreciated include:

DIY skills, skills with electronics. Experience in character role play or acting. Experience in puzzle writing. Experience in set and prop building. Experience in painting and decorating. Driving licence.

Salary: Approx. £24,960 + Commission
