General Manager: Grim Up North LTD & Escape Rooms Durham

Location: Durham | Salary: £28,080 (Reviewed April 2026) | Type: Full-Time (40 Hours)

Grim Up North LTD and Escape Rooms Durham are looking for a highly driven, creative, and hands-on General Manager to lead our day-to-day operations. Whether you’re briefing a group of excited players, managing a diverse team, or help building our next big attraction, you will be the heartbeat of the company.

The Role

This is a dynamic, "player-manager" position. You won't just be behind a desk; you’ll be on the floor, ensuring every customer has an unforgettable experience. You will work closely with the Company Directors to grow the business, execute sales strategies, and maintain our high standards of play.

Key Responsibilities​

Operational Leadership:

  • Stage Management: Running games, delivering high-energy briefings, and ensuring seamless customer care.

  • Team Management: Building the monthly rota, handling HR issues, and fostering a fun, professional team culture.

  • Venue Excellence: Overseeing Health & Safety, ensuring the building is clean and welcoming, and acting as the primary key holder.

Business & Growth:

  • Sales & Strategy: Working with Directors on sales strategies, including corporate lead generation and radio advertising (Full training provided).

  • Administration: Completing weekly payroll, admin reports, and managing budgets effectively.

  • Social Media: Planning and executing an engaging social media strategy.

​

Creative & Technical:

  • Game Maintenance: Hands-on upkeep of props and tech, including basic DIY and use of power tools.

  • New Builds: Managing the construction process for new games and off-site events.

​

Essential Skills & Experience

  • The Vibe: An outgoing, confident public speaker who can "leave personal business at the door" to entertain our guests.

  • The Brain: A calm problem-solver who can make quick decisions under pressure and foresee issues before they arise.

  • The Experience: Previous experience in people management (Assistant Manager level or higher) or live events/hospitality management.

  • The Basics: Strong ICT skills, basic DIY/electrical interest, and a willingness to work evenings (up to 10:30pm) and weekends.
