Escape Game Master

Location: Durham | Pay: National Minimum Wage (Age-dependent) | Type: Casual / Zero-Hour Contract

Do you have high energy, a love for puzzles, and a flair for the dramatic? Escape Rooms Durham is looking for outgoing, fun, and reliable individuals to join our pool of Game Masters. This is a casual role perfect for students, actors, or anyone with a "side-hustle" looking for flexible work in a professional yet high-energy environment.

The Role

As a Game Master, you are in charge of the show. You aren’t just a staff member; you are the host, the hint-giver, and the person responsible for ensuring our guests have the best hour of their week.

Your Responsibilities

  • Stage Management: Greeting teams, delivering high-energy briefings, and "running" the games from behind the scenes.

  • Customer Care: Handling bookings, taking payments, and ensuring every guest feels welcome.

  • Room Resets & Upkeep: Resetting puzzles with 100% accuracy, cleaning customer areas (hoovering, dusting, toilets), and performing light maintenance on props to keep the games looking sharp.

  • Running a game:  Learning the games fully so you can offer clues and guidance, learning all scripts to 100% acuracy.

  • Safety: Acting as the primary Health & Safety supervisor for your guests during their experience.

Terms & Flexibility

  • Zero-Hour Contract: This role offers total flexibility. Shifts are arranged monthly, making it ideal for those balancing studies or other work.

  • Hours: Most work takes place on evenings, weekends, and during school holidays. You must be willing to work up to midnight on occasion.

  • Pay: Paid at the National Minimum Wage relative to your age. (Note: Rates will increase in line with the April 2026 NMW adjustments).

What We Are Looking For

  • The Personality: You must be a "people person" who can command a room and leave your personal business at the door to provide an amazing experience. Each shift is a performance for a paying audience.

  • Problem Solvers: You need to work well under pressure and think on your feet when problem crops up or a customer has a unique request.

  • Reliability: Even though the hours are flexible, we need people who are punctual and professional. We expect all employees to be committed to the success of the company.

  • The "Extra Mile": We are particularly interested in candidates with a Full UK Driving Licence and those with basic DIY, acting, or electronics skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a unique, fun environment where no two days are the same.

  • Opportunities to help create new games and puzzles.

  • Potential for promotion to Supervisor roles as they become available.
