Deputy Manager & Lead Game Operator

Location: Durham | Salary: NMW| Type: Part-Time (20 Hours + Overtime)

Are you ready to be the "Right Hand" of Durham’s most immersive escape rooms? Grim Up North LTD and Escape Rooms Durham are looking for a Deputy Manager who is as comfortable leading a team as they are running an immersive game. You will spend your time delivering world-class experiences to our players and stepping up to manage operations whenever the General Manager is away.

The Role
This is a vital support role. For most of your week, you will be a Lead Game Operator, ensuring our guests have a 5-star experience. However, you will also be trained to "Deputise"—taking full responsibility for the venue, staff, and safety in the absence of the General Manager.

Your Responsibilities
As a Game Operator (Core Role):
-
Immersive Hosting: Delivering high-energy briefings, "stage managing" the games, and providing exceptional customer care.
-
Venue Pride: Keeping the space spotless (cleaning, hoovering, and maintenance) to ensure every guest enters a perfect environment.
-
Tech & DIY: Assisting with prop repairs and game maintenance (using basic power tools and tech troubleshooting).
As Deputy Manager (When Covering):
-
Leadership: Managing the staff rota during your shift and being the first point of contact for staff queries.
-
Problem Solving: Making quick, calm decisions regarding bookings, technical hitches, or customer issues.
-
Key Holding: Opening and closing the venues and ensuring all Health & Safety protocols are followed to the letter.
-
Admin Support: Assisting the GM with social media, reports, and basic administration.

Essential Skills & Experience
-
A Performer’s Heart: You need to be outgoing, confident, and able to command a room (briefing players).
-
Reliability: You are the backup for the business. We need someone who is punctual, responsible, and a clear communicator.
-
Management Potential: While full management experience isn't essential, you should have experience leading a shift or a small team.
-
Hands-on Attitude: You aren’t afraid to pick up a screwdriver or a mop. We are a small, dedicated team where everyone pitches in.
-
Availability: Must be able to work evenings (up to 10:30pm) and weekends.

Why Join Us?
This is a perfect role for someone who loves the creative side of the escape room industry but wants to develop real-world management and business skills.
-
Pay: NMW
-
Contract: 20 hours per week (guaranteed), with frequent opportunities for overtime to cover GM leave or busy periods.
-
Benefits: Statutory Holiday, Sick Pay, and NEST Pension.
